The Potter's House was birthed out of a God-inspired burning in our founder's heart to be sent to those in need as the hands and feet of our Savior in the earth. A longing to Love and Comfort them with the critical message "You are Loved" and to safely return them to The Potter's Hands to be made new again.
We have offered a free after school program for children in need, and are implementing parenting classes and training opportunities to help families break cycles of abuse and neglect.
We provide foster and adoptive parent training/support, working with local agencies (such as schools, law enforcement, and child services) to create awareness within our community and identify needs.
Our community is full of people with the heart to serve. We strive to connect the people willing to help with the people who need it. And we love building new
relationships and strengthening old ones along the way!
For children living in poverty, school supplies and new shoes often fall to the bottom of the list for their struggling families. That's where The Potter's House steps in to bridge the gap. We partner with local schools and area agencies to provide essential needs and educational resources to those who most need them. With your donations and help, children can put their best foot forward each year.
Our community is filled with children who are victims of poverty, and victims of abuse and neglect. The Potter's House annual Christmas outreach allows us to build trust and relationships with families who often feel forgotten, by carrying Hope and Love directly into their homes each year. We also serve as a dedicated Christmas resource to our Department of Social Services and our school system. Each year we get the joy and privilege of canvasing our community and sharing God's love and gifts on Christmas Eve.
Children poised in anticipation on their trailer steps exclaiming "We KNEW you would come!" is what keeps us returning year after year. And thanks to your donations and time, we always do.
The Potter's House partners with the victim advocacy unit of our local police department and our department of Social Services to help provide clothing and necessities for children removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect.
Their belongings are often quickly thrown in garbage bags, which is no place for God's priceless treasures. We come alongside our local agencies to remind our precious children that they are not disposable. They are valued and worthy of Love.
Our passion is to see children from broken homes made whole and at home in their 'forever homes'. We recruit, train, and support foster and adoptive families. We also hold community workshops to encourage and share the blessing of fostering and adopting. This is truly the foundation on which The Potter's House stands.
We are so grateful to team up with the United Way of the Lakelands to bolster our efforts to address housing insecurity among the families we work with on a daily basis. This allows our team to assess housing in Saluda on a broader scale and explore strategies to help those in need.
The Potter's House believes every child deserves a safe and stable home, with suitable housing, adequate clothing, and educational resources. But sadly, this is not the reality for most children and families living in our community, where a majority are at or below the poverty level, and over 90% are on free or reduced school lunch.
That's where your generosity and The Potter's House steps in. Together, we're providing innovative solutions for families in crisis.
Not long ago, I sat in a dental office with a 9 year old girl who has never seen a dentist in her life. Her tooth was rotting out-root exposed, terrible pain. I watched as the dentist quickly and swiftly popped the tooth right out as it broke into pieces.
She never cried, never flinched, never complained. She’s known pain. A deep pain that we could not bear. The pain of poverty and fear and neglect.
And yet I can see her, really see her buried deep inside 9 years of not knowing where she would live, where her next meal would come from, watching her mother be beaten and not knowing if she would be safe or scared or afraid or even what the very next second held.
It’s impossible to describe what you can see in someone’s eyes without ever saying a word. I can hear her saying “do you have me, Am I okay” and my heart racing and wondering what I’m saying Yes to yet all the while answering with a Yes, no matter what!!
God help me hold those you bring into my home, my heart and through my front door. Help me more and more and God send those who are saying Yes too. We need you more and more. We need you to open your heart, your home and your door.
Say Yes if you can but at least don’t say no. Say maybe, perhaps I have enough Love to give and let God fill in the rest. His Love is Big and it consumes us and then, when we find we are no more, and we realize it was Him all along Opening His Door to them through our arms. Say Yes.
Please join us to learn about becoming a foster parent or beginning the process to adopt. For now, maybe it's a start....
